sakura 桜 cherry blossoms

I’m back, after a very very long hiatus. Spring is finally here in Japan, although it has been rather cold and rainy recently. April is the time for new beginnings in Japan as it is the beginning of the school year and the fiscal year as well. We had our opening ceremony this week, welcoming in the new junior high first graders. I also met my new adult conversation students – lots of new faces this semester.

On the personal front, sakura season is marking the beginning of the end of my time in Japan. My 3 year contract is up at the end of July. In the mean time, I have been looking into all sorts of opportunities post-JET. I recently received some good news: I have been accepted into the Masters Programme in East-Asian Studies at Lund University in Sweden. I don’t know if I am going to go yet though, I am still mulling over all my options.

I’ve also done a fair bit of travel recently. In March, I made a trip to New York City and Montreal and hung out with some friends there. At the end of April, I will be heading to Taiwan for 2 weeks to brush up on my Mandarin and to travel around a bit. I will certainly miss all this paid holiday time I get on JET!

Below you will find some selected vignettes of my life and travels since I last blogged over a year ago. Enjoy!
