Last night I went to see Dreamgirls with Sophia, John, and friends to celebrate his birthday. The film documents the tribulations and triumphs of a "family" bound by music and a common dream, spanning decades of history when African Americans, and Americans in general were trying to fulling realize their dreams for liberty and equality. The music is absolute pop perfection, while perfectly reflecting and commenting on the emotions of the characters and the state of the times. Newcomer Jennifer Hudson, of American Idol fame, was absolutely on fire! Her voice was so beautiful it gave me goosebumps! People were singing along, clapping and screaming. The experience was almost religious, like a black church in Harlem on Sunday morning. YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!
