Awesome Foundation NYC – August 2012 Update

We want to give you $1000 for your best idea.

That’s what we do as the New York City chapter of the Awesome Foundation. We give micro-grants each month to projects that are inspiring, delightful, and elegant: in a word, Awesome. And applying couldn’t be more easy.

We just awarded our August grant to the City Surfers initiative of Concrete Safaris in East Harlem, which manages 15,000 square feet of child and youth-centered gardens on NYC Housing Authority property. Through the program, young people grow fruits and vegetables and perennial butterfly plants, transforming the physical environment in the public housing projects and inspiring their peers to get outside and play.

Our previous grantees are also continuing their Awesome work. The designers who received our July Grant are holding a fundraiser for their project Silent Lights, a permanent interactive sculpture in Red Hook that will transform traffic noise into a beautiful display of light.

And our June 2011 grantee, Babycastles, New York’s first independent games arcade, hosted a 3-day summit at the Museum of Art & Design.

We award grants every month so don’t keep your ideas to yourself. There are no limiting criteria, save that your idea must be awesome. Apply today for our September grant!
